Description of Event

I Am Black History is a virtual storytelling experience presented by Divas With Disabilities®. This powerful program honors the legacy, visibility, and cultural impact of Black disabled women whose stories continue to shape our past, present, and future.
Ten selected Divas will share 3‑minute narratives that connect their personal journeys with a Black History figure who inspires them. Each story affirms lineage, identity, and the ongoing contributions of Black disabled women to our collective history.
Join us as we celebrate voice, representation, and the brilliance of our community.

NOVEMBER 2025

Date: Black Friday, November 28, 2025
On Black Friday, The Divas With Disabilities Project hosted a vibrant Open Mic Night, bringing together voices from across the community to speak up, speak out, and celebrate the power of authentic expression.
The evening opened with a reaffirmation of our mission and the introduction of Divas in the City TV, our new media arm dedicated to spotlighting Black and Brown women with disabilities who are leaders, creatives, and entrepreneurs.
Participants shared stories of artistry, advocacy, and resilience — from choreographing inclusive dance to navigating mental health and contributing to our collective vision. We also welcomed voices from grassroots disability organizations, strengthening our community ties.
A standout moment came with the announcement of a new entrepreneurship course, designed to help divas launch and register their own businesses.
The night closed with the debut of our anthem, “Two Sides” — a song created for us, by us, written by Dr. Donna R. Walton, EdD. It celebrates empowerment, duality, and the beauty of seeing ourselves fully.
This event was more than a gathering — it was a declaration of visibility, creativity, and leadership.
