MEET THE DWD TEAM
Divas With Disabilities could not exist or run without the awesome team behind it.
In keeping with the concept of “Nothing About Us Without Us,” our team includes people with various disabilities.
Below is a list of several individuals who work tirelessly publicly or behind the scenes to continue amplifying the voices of our Divas.
Donna R. Walton, EdD, Founder, President & CEO
After decades of living with limb loss herself, Dr. Walton founded DWD in 2012 as a Facebook group for black and brown girls and women with disabilities. The organization has since grown into an international movement and is striving to serve more girls and women in the future.
Dr. Walton graduated with a doctorate in rehabilitation counseling in 2005 and is trained in cognitive behavioral therapy. Her book, Shattered Dreams, Broken Pieces, tells the story of her cancer diagnosis and subsequent leg amputation at age 18. Over the following years, she learned much about surviving and thriving with limb loss and facing the threat of triple jeopardy (being black, female and disabled). As she overcame multiple struggles in her own life, she knew she wanted to help others and has dedicated her life to doing so.
Rick Bowers, MS, Communications, Grant Writing & Marketing Consultant (EurekaVision)
Bowers is the founder of EurekaVision LLC, a consulting company that helps businesses and organizations connect with and win their target audiences. He graduated with an MS in communications in 1991 and has more than 30 years’ experience working for nonprofit organizations and for-profit businesses.

“If you ever see the smiles on black and brown disabled women’s faces when we are included and represented positively, you’ll understand why we do what we do and struggle to achieve more. It is a wonderful feeling that can’t be duplicated.”
